Board Certification - Family Law

What is Board Certification?

  • An attorney that is Board Certified in a specific area has met both the experience requirements that the Texas Board of Legal Specialization has set forth for taking the written examination in that practice area and further has made a sufficient score on the written examination.  The examination itself consists of three hours of essay questions and three hours of multiple choice questions.  It has been stated multiple times that less than half of all attorneys pass the board certification examination on their first try.
  • William B. Doonan was allowed to sit for the board certification examination in October 2014 after being licensed in November of 2009.  He was allowed to sit for the examination after demonstrating past experience in many contested cases and jury trials.  Further, William passed the examination the first time he took it.  In doing so he has joined the elite group of attorneys who were (a) able to take the exam in the minimum requisite time after being licensed and (b) who passed the examination the first time.  By hiring Mr. Doonan to handle your case, you are hiring an elite attorney who is highly skilled in the area of family law.
